Key Highlights from the Premier League Weekend

Chelsea and Manchester City have quickly adapted to a changing Premier League season, while Liverpool and Tottenham are struggling.

City leads the table ahead of Arsenal's match against Aston Villa on Monday. They thrashed Crystal Palace 4-1. Chelsea also won, narrowly beating Brighton 4-3, keeping their perfect start under Xabi Alonso.

On the other hand, Tottenham has spent heavily on new players, but they are still without a point or a goal. Andoni Iraola has only managed two draws in his first two matches as Liverpool's manager.

Chelsea's Attack Looks Promising

In just two Premier League games under Alonso, Chelsea has scored seven goals and earned six points. Fans are feeling hopeful.

The real test for Chelsea comes when they play against defending champions Arsenal next weekend. The arrival of Alonso and Morgan Rogers has formed a strong front three with Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer. This has turned around a team that finished 10th last season.

That poor finish could actually help Chelsea's chances for their first league title in ten years. They are not in European competitions, while their rivals have to deal with the Champions League.

“Chelsea has so much quality in transition moments. They have maybe the best offensive line in the league,” said Brighton's coach, Fabian Hurzeler.

Alonso has shown he can make the most of his players. Chelsea had only 26 percent possession against Brighton, the least in any match during Alonso's career.

But they drew Brighton in and struck hard on the counter-attack, highlighted by Pedro’s third goal that started from their own area.

Spurs Struggling with Mentality

Roberto De Zerbi looked at Tottenham's poor start and said it is not about money but mentality that will shape their season.

De Zerbi has led an expensive rebuild of Tottenham, who barely avoided relegation last season. But results have not come easy.

The Italian has spent over 300 million pounds (406 million dollars) before Tuesday’s transfer deadline. Still, Tottenham lost 3-0 to Brentford in their first game and 2-0 at home to Newcastle on Saturday.

Tottenham is at the bottom of the table, having lost their first two league matches without scoring for the first time since 1974-75. After finishing 17th in the league for two seasons in a row, De Zerbi knows the pressure is rising on his players.

“After two defeats, some might think it’s the same story as the last two seasons. I have no doubt it’s not like this,” he said.

“It’s crucial to find the right mentality. Unfortunately, you can’t buy mentality in the transfer market.”

Liverpool's Defensive Issues

Liverpool might have a forward line with each player costing over 100 million pounds at Ipswich on Friday. Bradley Barcola is set to join Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz in their attack.

So far, Isak and Wirtz have not delivered much for the big money spent on them last year. However, they contributed to a goal each in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The Swedish striker scored his first goal of the season, while Wirtz assisted Victor Munoz to equalize in the final 10 minutes.

Despite looking for attacking players since Mohamed Salah left at the end of last season, Liverpool still has issues at the back.

Iraola has started with two messy 2-2 draws, highlighting the lack of midfield protection for their defense. Both full-backs, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong, were substituted after a tough first hour. Iraola might regret not focusing more on strengthening the defense instead of signing another costly forward.
