Julian Nagelsmann might soon lose his job as Germany's coach. This news comes from the tabloid Bild, which reported on Thursday that former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is the top choice to replace him.

Nagelsmann, who is 38 years old, has faced criticism since Germany's shocking exit from the World Cup. They lost to Paraguay in the last 32, which surprised many fans.

Bild showed pictures of Nagelsmann at the German Football Association (DFB) office in Frankfurt. They reported that he was offered a severance package of seven million euros, which is about $8 million, during a three-hour meeting.

Nagelsmann's contract, which he last renewed in January 2025, runs until 2028. Reports on his annual salary have not been shared, but German media say he makes around seven million euros each year.

Germany's loss in penalties to Paraguay was their third consecutive early exit from the World Cup. They also had early exits in Russia and Qatar, despite being four-time champions.

This defeat was Germany's first knockout match since they won the World Cup in Brazil in 2014. On Tuesday, DFB president Bernd Neuendorf announced an immediate investigation into what went wrong at the World Cup.

A decision about Nagelsmann's future is expected “by the beginning of next week at the latest,” according to AFP sports subsidiary SID.

Many German media outlets, including Sky and Munich's Sueddeutsche Zeitung, have reported that Klopp is the clear favorite to take over from Nagelsmann.

Klopp left his management position at Liverpool in 2024. Since then, he has worked as the head of global football for Red Bull, managing a network of clubs in Austria, Germany, Brazil, the United States, and Japan.
