Paris Saint-Germain’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia from Georgia was named the Champions League player of the season on Sunday by a UEFA panel.
Kvaratskhelia was a serious threat to opponents in PSG’s title defense. He scored ten goals and made six assists in 16 matches.
In a match against Arsenal on Saturday, PSG came back from a goal down. They equalized with a penalty in the 65th minute after Kvaratskhelia was brought down in the box. Ousmane Dembele took the penalty and scored.
Both players were substituted before the game went to extra time. The match ended 1-1, and PSG won the shoot-out 4-3.
The award was decided by UEFA’s technical observer board, which includes about 30 football experts. This group featured names like Gareth Southgate, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and Rafa Benitez.
The panel described Kvaratskhelia’s season as exciting and impressive.
“Arguably Kvaratskhelia’s finest performance came in the unforgettable 5-4 semi-final first-leg win over Bayern, as he curled in a beauty to draw his side level at 1-1 before adding a fierce drive in the second period to complete a fine double,” they said.
He also scored three goals over two legs against Chelsea in the last 16 and netted another against Liverpool in the quarter-finals.
The now 25-year-old also scored in the final of 2025, where PSG defeated Inter Milan 5-0.
