Lionel Messi kept his scoring streak alive against Nashville on Saturday. Inter Miami fought hard to secure a 2-2 draw in their important match in the Eastern Conference.

Messi scored a fantastic goal in the 62nd minute at Miami’s Nu Stadium. This gave Inter a 2-1 lead. But Nashville's Sam Surridge scored a late equalizer in injury time to level the match.

At 39 years old, Messi has now scored 17 goals in 14 games against Nashville since joining Miami in 2023.

He had chances to increase his goal tally in this match. In the 50th minute, his shot hit the underside of the bar. Later, in the 78th minute, another shot hit the post. A late effort from Messi was also cleared by Nashville defender Jeisson Palacios before Surridge’s goal.

The draw leaves Inter Miami nine points behind Nashville in the race for the top spot. There are still nine regular season games left.

Nashville started the match strong. In the fourth minute, English striker Surridge broke past the offside trap and scored with a low shot into the bottom corner.

Miami equalized midway through the first half, thanks to Messi. His corner kick was headed into the net by Nashville defender Reed Baker-Whiting for an own goal.

It seemed like Messi had scored the winner in the second half. He worked well with his former Argentina teammate Rodrigo De Paul at the edge of the box. Messi curled the ball into the net, leaving Nashville's goalkeeper Brian Schwake with no chance.

But Miami could not hold on to their lead. Surridge found the net from close range in injury time, stealing a point for Nashville.
