Messi scores 930th goal as Inter Miami draws 2-2 with San Diego

Lionel Messi scored his 930th career goal with a fantastic free-kick, but Inter Miami ended up in a 2-2 draw with San Diego FC in Major League Soccer on Sunday night.

San Diego took the lead in the 12th minute. Anders Dreyer finished a through ball from Jeppe Tverskov with a chip over Inter Miami goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair.

Messi brought the score level 12 minutes later. He was fouled just outside the penalty area. The Argentine curled a left-footed free-kick around the wall. The ball hit the post before crossing the line past goalkeeper CJ dos Santos.

This goal was Messi’s 20th in the 2026 MLS season and his 75th career free-kick goal.

Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano shared on X on Sunday, “Lionel Messi has now reached 930 career goals… by scoring his 75th free kick goal. 101 goals wearing Inter Miami shirt.”

This goal also marked his 101st for Inter Miami. This came just four days after he scored his 100th goal for the club in a Campeones Cup win against Cruz Azul.

Inter Miami went ahead in the 74th minute. Luis Suárez found the net to make it 2-1.

But San Diego was not going to leave empty-handed. Dreyer scored again in the 82nd minute to level the match and earn a point for the visitors.

This draw made it four consecutive draws for Inter Miami in MLS. The club now boasts a record of 12 wins, four losses, and 10 draws, giving them 46 points.

Messi, 39, keeps adding to his impressive scoring record and remains a key player for Inter Miami.
