Monaco's Belgian coach Sebastien Pocognoli watched the French L1 match between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and AS Monaco at Parc des Princes in Paris on March 6, 2026. On June 1, 2026, AS Monaco announced that they have ended Pocognoli's contract. He had been the coach since October 2025.
Monaco confirmed on Monday that they have sacked Sebastien Pocognoli after he spent just under eight months in charge.
Pocognoli had one more year on his contract, but the team finished seventh in Ligue 1. This result meant they missed out on playing in the Champions League next season.
Instead, Monaco secured a spot in the UEFA Conference League play-offs.
AS Monaco released a statement saying, “AS Monaco announces the end of its collaboration with Sebastien Pocognoli at the conclusion of the 2025-2026 season.”
Pocognoli, who is 38 years old, joined Monaco last October from Union Saint-Gilloise. He replaced Adi Hutter at that time.
After a tough start to the season, Pocognoli managed to guide Monaco to a chance for a top-three finish. This was thanks to a solid 10-match unbeaten run. But a poor finish to the season hurt their chances for Champions League qualification.
Pocognoli leaves Monaco along with his two assistants, Kevin Mirallas and Artur Kopyt. Recently, three other staff members were also let go.
Several media reports suggest that Filipe Luis, a former Chelsea and Atletico Madrid defender, is the top candidate to take over. The 40-year-old left Flamengo in March, where he had won the Copa Libertadores last year with the Brazilian team.
