New Drama Between Comedians Alfa Sule and Woli Agba over Family Church

A new issue has come up around the relationship between Christian comedians and brothers, Femi Ajewole, known as Alfa Sule, and Ayo Ajewole, known as Woli Agba.

The latest news involves Alfa Sule accusing Woli Agba of taking over their late father's church, renaming it, and removing their father's legacy.

These claims have brought back focus on the brothers' long history together, their work in Christian drama, and how Woli Agba eventually left the ministry.

Who are Alfa Sule and Woli Agba?

Femi Ajewole, also called Alfa Sule, is an evangelist, actor, and founder of Christ Chosen Vessels Dance Drama Ministry. This group is based in Ibadan, Oyo State.

His younger brother, Ayo Ajewole, is widely recognized as Woli Agba and is linked closely to the ministry.

The brothers are known for mixing Christian evangelism, drama, dance, and comedy. Their productions have drawn large crowds in churches and through recorded films.

The ministry began in 2002 with just about 10 members and grew significantly over time. The name “Alfa Sule” became popular after one of their successful productions, while Woli Agba became famous for his beloved prophet character.

How did their journey begin?

The brothers worked together for many years in Christ Chosen Vessels Dance Drama Ministry.

In a 2017 interview, Woli Agba shared that the idea for the group came from Femi, and he joined as Woli Agba.

He described the ministry as a way to spread the gospel through comedy and drama.

The ministry gained popularity beyond church events, with productions like Take Heed helping to make them well-known in Christian entertainment.

Alfa Sule remained the leader while Woli Agba’s fame grew through his performances and later on social media.

Alfa Sule asked me to leave, Woli Agba

Woli Agba had talked about his split from Alfa Sule in a September 27, 2022 interview with Pastor Funke Felix-Adejumo on Navigate with FFA.

Reflecting on why he left their shared ministry, he said he did not leave willingly. He insisted that he loved his brother and did not plan to abandon the ministry.

He mentioned that many people misunderstood what happened, but he saw the separation as part of God’s plan for his life.

“I didn’t leave my brother, I love my brother, I couldn’t have left him. I don’t know maybe he just pushed me out to purpose.”

Woli Agba noted that he struggled with the decision because it came just as he got married.

“Get out can mean get up or get there. Though I didn’t find it funny when he asked me to leave, not knowing the angel of the Lord was waiting to hold my hand. It was about the time I just got married…. It was a long story but it was so deep.”

Woli Agba explained that Alfa Sule directly told him to leave the ministry.

“He told me to go.”

Woli Agba worked with his brother for about 15 years and did not expect their relationship to end like that.

He recalled pleading with his elder brother after the decision, and said family members also tried to help.

“I did not do anything; he just said leave me my group. Go. I went to prostrate; my family went to him; they went to ask him. I went to prostrate; he said he did not do anything wrong to him.”

Woli Agba said the decision was hard because Alfa Sule had supported him financially for years.

“I said, Uncle, where do you want me to go? He has been paying my salary for 15 years.”

He remembered taking his wife to Alfa Sule for his blessing after their marriage, saying he never intended to leave his brother.

“I even took my wife to him so he could bless my wife because I did not have any plan of leaving my brother.”

Alfa Sule’s version is different

In his latest talk on The Ajibola Akinyefa Podcast, which got attention on Wednesday night, he said he let his younger brother go after feeling it was God’s instruction.

According to Alfa Sule, he thought God was telling him to allow Woli Agba to find his own way.

He also claimed he did not know Woli Agba was thinking of leaving the ministry at that time.

Alfa Sule said he played a big part in his brother’s growth and even paid for his education, including his school fees at Leeds University.

So, what is the new controversy about?

This latest issue goes beyond their past professional split.

Alfa Sule is now worried about their late father’s church.

He said their father started the church and he played a major role while their father was alive.

He stated that he did not present the church as his own.

“I never called it my church,” he said during the podcast.

Alfa Sule said he would stay in the background, only going to the altar to preach.

Alfa Sule accuses Woli Agba of taking over the church

The biggest accusation came when Alfa Sule claimed that Woli Agba had turned their late father’s church into his own ministry.

He said that the church has been renamed and that these changes happened recently.

Alfa Sule learned about this from a family member and a lawyer. He was shocked when he later visited the church.

“I discovered that they have taken over. They have changed the name of the church. Recently, I realised that it is now his church,” he said.

He believes the church still belongs to their late father.

“Daddy’s church remains Daddy’s church. We were only continuing what he founded there,” he said.

Alfa Sule said the issue was not simply about the name of the church

He claimed that there is now little sign of their late father’s presence or legacy in the church.

“They have changed the name. Anything that has to do with Daddy is not really pronounced again in that church,” he said.

He added that when he visited, he could no longer see his father’s original vision in the ministry.

“I still hold on to the vision God gave my father. But when I went there, I saw that there is nothing you can trace to my father in that church again,” he said.

He compared it to other ministries where founders’ names, photos, and legacies are kept alive after they die.

Is Alfa Sule fighting for the church?

Interestingly, Alfa Sule said he does not want to fight his younger brother over the church.

He accepted that he has his own vision and won’t get into a public fight over the ministry.

“I’m not ready to fight over it. I know it is Daddy’s vision, and I also have my own vision,” he said.

He added that if Woli Agba thinks he has a different direction for the ministry, he won’t oppose him.

Why are these comedians attracting attention?

This drama has caught people's attention because the Ajewole brothers once worked closely together and helped shape a unique form of Christian entertainment.

Their split also led them on two different career paths. Alfa Sule continued with Christian dance drama and ministry work, while Woli Agba gained fame through comedy, skits, filmmaking, and social media.

Alfa Sule has defended the importance of dance drama, saying his ministry focuses on more than just making people laugh and stays true to ministry and evangelism.

This latest conflict mainly reflects Alfa Sule’s side of the story. As of now, Woli Agba has not publicly responded to the specific claims that he renamed their late father’s church, took it over, or erased traces of the founder’s legacy.

Despite their separation, Woli Agba has said that he loves his elder brother and does not see this as the end of their bond.

“I love my brother, and we are doing very well. If he calls me, I will answer,” he said in 2022.

Woli Agba’s view is important to this controversy because it shows that he sees their separation differently from Alfa Sule.
