Nigeria breaks record in Mixed 4x400m as Usoro reaches long jump final

Team Nigeria made history by setting the first-ever Commonwealth Games record in the Mixed 4x400m Relay in Glasgow. Ruth Usoro also qualified for the women’s long jump final on Friday, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

The team of Edidiong Udo, Esther Joseph, Samuel Ogazi, and Patience Okon-George won their heat. Usoro reached the final by achieving a season’s best jump on her first attempt.

She jumped 6.77m (+0.6), easily passing the automatic qualifying mark of 6.70m. This allowed her to move into the medal round confidently without needing a second jump.

In the 4x400m Relay, the Nigerian team finished with a time of 3:14.58. This was enough to win their heat, finishing ahead of Australia, who came second with a time of 3:15.21. Nigeria qualified for the final as the fastest team and favorites for the gold medal.

This performance made Udo, Joseph, Ogazi, and Okon-George the first athletes to become Commonwealth Games record holders in the Mixed 4x400m Relay, which is making its debut at the Games. It also showed Team Nigeria's strong intentions ahead of the final.

Kola Daniel, a special adviser on media at the National Sports Commission, confirmed the record in a statement. He described their run as a historic moment on the track.
