Nigeria's Junior Yellow Greens began the 2028 ICC U-19 Men's T20 World Cup Africa Division 2 Qualifier on a bad note. They lost to Uganda by five wickets in their first match in Rwanda on Sunday.

Kenneth Bobiface was Nigeria's top scorer with 97 runs off 107 balls. But his performance could not lift the team, as other players struggled against Uganda's bowlers.

Apart from Boniface and Okasha Isiyaku, who scored 34 runs off 81 balls, no other Nigerian batter reached double figures. The team was bowled out for 176 runs in 45 overs.

Felix Ocan, the Player of the Match, along with Larry Elton, was a big problem for the Junior Yellow Greens. They each took three wickets.

Uganda reached the target in 38.2 overs, finishing with 178 runs for the loss of five wickets. Captain Samuel Ahaisibwe led the chase with 72 runs off 90 balls. Pelumi Orimoloye was Nigeria's best bowler, taking two wickets.

After the first round of matches on Sunday, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Mozambique have no wins. Rwanda and Ghana won their opening games.

The Junior Yellow Greens will look to bounce back when they play against Ghana today (Monday). The top three teams from this Division 2 qualifier will join Kenya, Namibia, and Tanzania in Division 1.
