The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Campaign Council in Lagos State, Musiliu Obanikoro, has asked party members to unite as campaigns for the 2027 general elections kick off.
Obanikoro urged everyone to forget the divisions from the party’s primary elections and rally around the APC’s candidates.
He spoke on Wednesday at a prayer meeting organized by the party in Lagos to mark the start of election activities.
The Independent National Electoral Commission set September 9, 2026, as the date for campaigns to begin for the 2027 general elections.
Obanikoro noted that while members may have supported different candidates during the primaries, it is now essential for them to stand together behind the party’s candidates.
He encouraged party members to run their campaigns peacefully and not let political disagreements lead to personal fights.
“We competed with dignity. Let us campaign with respect. Let us disagree without becoming enemies,” he said.
The former senator emphasized that the APC needs to stay united, as its members will face political opponents together in the elections.
According to him, members should approach the campaign with a shared goal despite their individual views and interests.
Obanikoro mentioned that the prayer session was held to seek help from God before the campaign period, explaining that political campaigns need planning, hard work, and prayers.
“We are gathered yesterday for a simple but profound purpose: to place this political journey in the hands of God before the campaigns begin,” he said.
He urged members to pray for wisdom, protection, and guidance for the party’s leaders, candidates, supporters, and members during the campaign.
“Our prayer today is simple: let God go before us. Let Him go before our party; let Him go before our candidates; let Him guide our leaders and protect our members and supporters,” he said.
Obanikoro asked supporters to focus on re-electing President Bola Tinubu and electing Obafemi Hamzat, while staying loyal and disciplined throughout the campaign.
He reminded members that political office is temporary and encouraged them to avoid actions that could harm relationships or create divisions within the party and the society.
The APC leader called on everyone to enter the campaign season with “one purpose, one message, and one determination” as they aim for victory for the party.
He also prayed for the success of the party’s candidates and leaders and for peace and progress in Lagos State and Nigeria.
