Ogun community gets free health support for over 250 residents

More than 250 people from Davol Community along Idiroko Road in Ota, Ogun State, received free medical help and support from the Beulah World Initiative.

The outreach took place on Saturday. Organisers said it was aimed at helping residents who struggle to access healthcare and other basic needs due to rising living costs.

During the outreach, residents got medical consultations, screenings for chronic conditions, HIV tests, paediatric deworming, health education, and prescription drugs. The team also gave out food packs and clothing to vulnerable residents.

Chichi Ononiwu, the founder and coordinator of BWI, spoke during the event. She explained that the initiative aims to bring healthcare and support closer to communities that need it most.

Ononiwu said, "Our mission at Beulah World Initiative has always been to bring hope, healing, and tangible relief directly to the doorsteps of those who need it most."

She added, "Seeing the overwhelming turnout at the Davol Community Outreach today reminds us of the critical gaps in grassroots healthcare, but seeing the smiles on the faces of the mothers, children, and elderly residents fills our hearts with immense gratitude."

Matron Olubunmi Abatan, a medical volunteer with the group, said the team worked for several hours, helping residents with high blood pressure and other health issues.

Abatan noted that it was rewarding to see residents who looked weak or unwell feeling better after treatment.

For some residents, this outreach offered services they struggled to pay for. Mrs Shade Alao, a mother of three, shared her experience. She said healthcare and medication costs were too high for her family.

Alao mentioned that the free medical checks, drugs, deworming for her children, and food support helped ease their burden.

Another resident, Mrs Olabisi Kolawole, highlighted how important the HIV test was for her. She had found it hard to access such services before now.

Kolawole said, "Being able to get HIV tested today was a huge relief, as it has been difficult to access that to date."

She added, "Taking my children to the clinic for deworming and general checkups is usually a big financial burden for us right now with the current economic situation. Getting it done today for free, along with food items, is a massive relief for my family."

An elderly resident, Pa Samuel, received eye drops during the outreach. He said a long-term eye infection had made it hard for him to see and read.

He expressed gratitude for the medication, which eased the financial pressure of seeking treatment.

The outreach also included health education. Participants learned about diet and lifestyle choices for managing conditions like high blood pressure.

Emeka Okafor, a local artisan, attended the health talk. He said it helped him understand how lifestyle changes could support medical treatment.

This initiative comes as more people worry about access to affordable healthcare, especially low-income families facing rising medicine and service costs.

While community health outreach can provide quick help, having ongoing access to affordable primary healthcare is essential. This ensures residents do not rely only on occasional support.

The organisers said this outreach is part of BWI's efforts to provide healthcare and welfare support to underserved communities in Ogun State and beyond. They are calling for continued support from public and private donors to help reach more communities.
