Nigeria’s Oluwaseun Ogunsakin and Botswana’s Ntungamili Raguin are making waves at the 2026 Wimbledon Championships. They have reached the boys’ doubles semi-finals after another strong win.
The African duo defeated the sixth seeds, Yanick Theodore Alexandrescou from France and Ryo Tabata from Japan, with a score of 6-4, 7-6. This victory secures their spot in the last four of the well-known junior tournament.
Their journey has become one of the remarkable doubles stories this year, with Ogunsakin and Raguin stepping up as giant killers. They started by upsetting the tournament’s third seeds in the first round, winning 6-3, 7-6(1). They then had a tough match in the Round of 16 against an American team, winning 6-1, 4-6, 10-1 before taking down the sixth seeds in straight sets.
Ogunsakin's success at Wimbledon has been impressive. Earlier in the tournament, he made history as the first Nigerian in 36 years to compete in the Wimbledon boys’ singles draw. He is also the first Nigerian to represent the country in singles at any Grand Slam event in over a decade.
His singles run ended in the first round after a hard-fought three-set match against Britain’s Oliver Page. But the 17-year-old bounced back strongly in doubles.
Ogunsakin is from the Aurum Tennis Academy. He has built his reputation on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior circuit. He trained at the ITF High Performance Centre in Tunisia and has been part of the ITF/Grand Slam Player Development Programme.
His progress has caught the eye of former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi. He has been following Ogunsakin’s growth since his administration sponsored him to the ITF academy in Tunisia. The former governor called Ogunsakin an exceptional talent and believes he will continue to make Ekiti and Nigeria proud on the world stage.
Ogunsakin and Raguin are set to face the winners of the other semi-final. The match will be between Brazil’s Luis Guto Miguel and Slovenia’s Žiga Šeško, and Austria’s Rihards Neimanis and Romania’s Matei Todoran. This match will be on Friday, and a spot in the Wimbledon boys’ doubles final is on the line.
