Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye surprised fans by showing up at the Formula 1 British Grand Prix on Saturday. He presented the Pirelli Pole Position Award to rising Italian driver Kimi Antonelli at Silverstone, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Okoye's appearance grabbed the attention of both Serie A and Formula 1 fans, but it was not by chance.
Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Okoye is a big Formula 1 fan. He attended the British Grand Prix as a guest of Italian tyre maker Pirelli.
As part of this role, Pirelli chose Okoye to present Antonelli with the Pole Position Award after the young Italian secured another pole position.
Antonelli is becoming one of Italy's top sports stars, much like tennis player Jannik Sinner. His performances are constantly making headlines in Italy.
Gazzetta also mentioned that Okoye's profile has grown a lot in the last few weeks. His Instagram followers jumped from about 250,000 to over 1.5 million. He also passed one million followers on TikTok.
This increase in followers might be linked to his popularity among women worldwide.
