Police nab three suspects and recover stolen bikes in Ekiti

The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested three suspects for motorcycle theft. They also recovered seven suspected stolen motorcycles in different operations across the state.

The suspects include Mustapha Lekan, 38, from Osun State, who is accused of stealing motorcycles. The other two are Blessing Adebiyi and Ogunbayo Adebiyi, who are believed to have received stolen motorcycles.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, shared this information in a statement on Tuesday in Ado Ekiti. He said the arrests happened in Ado Ekiti, Ido Ekiti, and Ilogbo Ekiti on Saturday.

Abutu explained the details of the operation. He said, "On Saturday, 18th July, 2026, at about 2 p.m., operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit acted on credible intelligence. They received a tip-off that a suspect had stolen a red Bajaj motorcycle near Olaoluwa Muslim Grammar School in Ado Ekiti and was running towards Ilawe Road."

"The VCRU patrol team, who were on stop-and-search duty along Ilawe Road, quickly took action. The operatives spotted the stolen motorcycle, chased the suspect, and successfully caught him."

"The suspect was identified as Mustapha Lekan, a 38-year-old from Osun State. The stolen motorcycle was recovered from him."

During questioning, the suspect admitted to stealing two motorcycles in Ado Ekiti. Further investigation led detectives to Ilogbo Ekiti and Ido Ekiti, where they arrested Blessing Adebiyi and Ogunbayo Adebiyi, who are suspected of receiving stolen motorcycles.

As a result, the operatives found six more motorcycles believed to be stolen. The investigation is still ongoing to find the rightful owners of the recovered motorcycles and to catch others in the criminal network.

The police spokesman said the suspects will face charges in court once investigations are complete. Abutu mentioned that the Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, praised the operatives for their quick response and professionalism in protecting lives and property in the state.

He added, "The CP emphasized the command’s determination to continue intelligence-led policing and clear Ekiti State of criminals. The CP is encouraging the public to keep supporting the police with timely and credible information that will help in the fight against crime in the state."
