Raphinha is now officially Brazil’s new No. 10. The Brazilian Football Confederation announced this on Thursday. This comes as the national team starts a new phase without Neymar Jr.
The Barcelona winger will sport the famous shirt in Brazil’s upcoming friendly matches against Australia and India.
The CBF shared the full squad numbers ahead of Friday’s match against Australia in Townsville. This will be the first game since Brazil's exit in the Round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup.
Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano took to X on Friday to confirm the news. He posted, “OFFICIAL: Raphinha, Brazil’s new number 10 after Neymar Jr’s international retirement.”
Endrick will wear the No. 9 shirt that Matheus Cunha used to wear. Estêvão will wear No. 11, while Vinícius Júnior keeps No. 7. Goalkeeper Hugo Souza is set to wear No. 1.
Neymar is Brazil’s all-time leading scorer, with 80 goals in 130 matches. He stepped back from international football after the World Cup. The 34-year-old wore the No. 10 shirt in four World Cups before he announced his retirement in late July. He said his time with the national team had come to an end.
Raphinha wore the No. 10 shirt in the past when Neymar was not available. Now, with Neymar retired, the number is linked to a new generation of the Seleção.
The No. 10 shirt has great historical value in Brazilian football. It has belonged to some of Brazil’s best players, including Pelé, Zico, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Kaká, and Neymar.
Raphinha is stepping into this legacy as Brazil starts a new era under head coach Carlo Ancelotti. His first game as Brazil’s official No. 10 will be against Australia in Townsville. The next chapter for the Seleção is already beginning.
