Troops from Operation Hadin Kai, a military task force in the North-east, have detained a Sudanese man suspected of being a terrorist fighter. The arrest happened during a counter-terrorism operation in Borno State, the military announced on Monday.
The suspect, Musa Fashir, 32, was caught along with a woman who said she is an illegal immigrant from Ghana. This happened during an intelligence-led operation by the 115 Task Force Battalion in Lassa, Dille General Area of Askira/Uba Local Government Area.
According to the task force's spokesperson, Captain Mohammed Goni, the operation took place around 11:48 am on July 19. It was part of ongoing efforts to stop terrorist activities in the North-east.
Captain Goni explained that initial intelligence connected Mr. Fashir, a Sudanese national, to terrorist groups in the area. This raised worries about foreign involvement in supporting the insurgency.
The second suspect, Mary Florence, 36, claimed to be an illegal immigrant from Ghana. Goni stated that the details of her presence in the area and the truth of her claims are under investigation.
The military spokesperson noted that both suspects are now in military custody. They are being profiled and interrogated to confirm their identities, find out their activities, and check for any links to terrorist groups or international crime networks.
Captain Goni mentioned that these arrests show how effective their intelligence-driven operations are. He stressed their commitment to disrupting terrorist support systems, preventing foreign fighters from entering, and protecting communities in the North-east.
He encouraged the public to keep sharing credible information with security agencies. Goni highlighted that public cooperation is key to achieving lasting peace and security in the region.
