A rider has died following a crash that involved two competitors during qualifying for the 2026 Manx Grand Prix on the Isle of Man.
The crash took place at Cruickshanks in Ramsey during the first lap of the qualifying session on Tuesday evening.
The session was stopped at around 18:50 BST.
The second rider involved in the accident suffered minor injuries and was taken to Noble’s Hospital, which is the main hospital on the island, for treatment.
The names of the two riders have not been made public.
The road between Ramsey Bus Station and Lheaney Road in Ramsey was shut for over three hours after the crash.
In a statement on Tuesday, the organisers of the Manx Grand Prix confirmed the death and announced that a multi-agency investigation is in progress, following the standard procedures for the event.
“Our thoughts are with the competitors, family and friends of those involved, who have asked for privacy at this time,” the organisers said.
Tuesday marked the second day of qualifying for the Manx Grand Prix and Classic TT. Monday's sessions were cancelled due to rain.
Sunday's opening qualifying session was also cut short because of a red-flag incident. Italian rider Salvatore Sallustro was taken to the hospital for treatment before worsening weather ended the session early.
Qualifying for the Manx Grand Prix and Classic TT is set to continue daily until Saturday. Racing in both events is scheduled to run until 28 August on the 37.7-mile (61km) Mountain Course.
