Zenith Bank has marked the 2026 World Environment Day with a two-part clean-up project in Lagos State. This initiative aligns with the global theme, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”

The first part took place on Wednesday, 3 June 2026. Bank staff cleaned up Ajose Adeogun Street in Victoria Island, Lagos. Employees worked to clear waste and teach residents about proper waste disposal. This effort also highlighted the Bank’s commitment to community service and taking care of the environment.

The second part of the clean-up happened on Thursday, 4 June 2026. This time, the focus was on the Falomo Waterways in Ikoyi, Lagos. The clean-up involved the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA). Together, they worked to remove trash from the waterways, promote cleaner water, and support the state’s climate goals.

Dr Adaora Umeoji, the Group Managing Director/CEO of Zenith Bank, spoke about the initiative. She said, “At Zenith Bank, sustainability is integral to how we operate. Clearing our streets and our waterways is a practical reminder that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility, and one we are proud to take up alongside LAWMA and LASWA. Through these exercises, we are taking deliberate action to preserve our communities, support climate action, and inspire others to act. Our operations will continue to align with global environmental standards as we build a more sustainable future for Nigeria and Africa.”

Zenith Bank is dedicated to applying Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles in its work. The Bank invests in green projects, energy efficiency, and programs focused on communities. These efforts support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 13 (Climate Action). Sustainability is a priority for the Bank in Nigeria and its operations across Africa, the UK, and Europe.
