The Anambra State Government has given out ₦80 million to 80 local startups. This marks an important step in its plan to make the state a top tech and innovation center in Nigeria.

Chinwe Okoli, the Chief Executive Officer of the Solution Innovation District (SID) and Special Adviser to Governor Charles Soludo on Innovation and Business Incubation, announced this investment. She said the funding is part of Governor Soludo’s plan to turn Anambra into “Africa’s Silicon Valley” while building a strong digital economy.

“Our administration is committed to transforming Anambra into Africa’s Silicon Valley. This vision is driven not by politics but by a clear and strategic imperative to secure the future of our state and its people,” Governor Soludo stated.

Investing in the Digital Economy

Each of the 80 startups received a $1 million grant after finishing SID’s tough 12-week incubation program. The startups went through a strict selection process, which included:

  • Business development and market validation
  • Customer discovery
  • Financial planning
  • Investor readiness
With this new funding, SID has now helped over 111 startups through different incubation and acceleration programs. This shows that the state’s startup scene is growing quickly.

Developing Local Tech Talent

Aside from funding, the event marked the graduation of 400 tech professionals trained in high-demand areas like robotics and network engineering.

The graduation included:

  • 300 Robotics Specialists: These participants were trained with Circum Technologies. They learned about embedded systems, automation, and sensor programming. These skills are vital for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
  • 100 Network Engineers: These participants took part in the ISP Network Engineering Programme organized with Connekt Broadband. They received hands-on training in fibre optic installation, wireless networking, and broadband infrastructure deployment.
These graduates are expected to play key roles in the state’s 2,000-kilometre fibre-optic rollout project. This project aims to provide reliable internet access to communities in Anambra that lack it.

Expanding Connectivity and Infrastructure

The event also highlighted wider infrastructure goals. Ifeanyi Adirika, CEO of Connekt Broadband, announced a new ₦1 billion Connectivity Fund. This fund is meant to boost broadband access in Anambra’s 21 local government areas. The goal is to reduce the digital gap in schools, hospitals, and markets.

Additionally, the state plans to turn the old Government House premises into a permanent tech campus. This hub will include new facilities, such as a planned Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) center by Connekt Broadband, which will create more job opportunities for local tech graduates.

The Path to 2030

These actions are part of the state’s “One Million Anambra Digital Tribe” initiative. This program has already helped 264,000 people and aims to equip one million residents with advanced digital skills by 2030.

“The event showed the state’s innovation model, which unites government, schools, and businesses to drive economic change,” Ms Okoli noted.
