The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has made it mandatory to use video recordings during its ongoing primary elections in Anambra state. This move aims to ensure that the process is transparent and credible.
According to the party, providing complete video evidence from the wards is now a must for the acceptance and validation of election results.
This information came from a public announcement signed by APGA’s National Publicity Secretary, Ejimofor Opara, on Saturday.
Opara explained that this measure is to boost transparency, accountability, and credibility in the election process.
He has instructed all electoral officers, assistant electoral officers, candidates, party officials, and members involved in the primaries to follow the new guidelines strictly.
The announcement stated, “The All Progressives Grand Alliance is announcing the use of mandatory video documentation for its ongoing primary elections in various wards across the state. This is to ensure transparency and credibility.
“The submission of comprehensive video evidence from the wards will serve as a mandatory condition for the acceptance and validation of election results.
“The video recordings must clearly capture the accreditation of eligible party members and delegates, queue formation during voting, counting of votes with figures visibly displayed and audibly announced.
“They must also show the announcement of results by the Electoral Officer, as well as the recording of final results in prescribed forms and other electoral documents.
“Any result not accompanied by the required video documentation would not be accepted or validated by the party.”
The party also clarified the duties of electoral officials and encouraged candidates to independently record the electoral process.
“All electoral teams and aspirants are advised to ensure that recording devices are functional, adequately powered, and capable of producing clear audio and visual records of the exercise.
“The directive is aimed at strengthening transparency, preserving the integrity of the primary election process, and safeguarding the credibility of the outcomes,” the statement added.
In some of the wards visited, like Awada Wards I and II at St. Michael’s Secondary School, Awada; and Amawbia Wards I and II at Community Primary School and Igwedimma Primary School, accreditation started around 10am.
Awka Wards I, II, III, and IV at Ayomna Okpala Primary School, Udeozor Primary School, Ndichie Hall, Umudioka, and Umuogwali Village Hall were also checked.
All the wards had a good turnout, and the exercise went on smoothly.
Meanwhile, some well-known candidates reportedly dropped out of the primaries for various reasons.
Still, the party has not made any official comment on this situation.
