Ajax Amsterdam have received good news about Super Eagles forward Tolu Arokodare before their UEFA Conference League match against Shelbourne on Thursday.
Arokodare moved to Ajax on loan from Wolves last week. The club can buy him for £17m at the end of the season.
He started well in Amsterdam, scoring just minutes after coming off the bench in Ajax’s 3-1 friendly win over Volendam on Sunday.
Despite this good performance, there was worry about whether he could play in the Conference League match against Shelbourne because of registration issues. The club has now cleared up his status.
Match Details
Ajax will play Shelbourne at the Johan Cruijff ArenA on Thursday night. They want to reach the playoff round of the UEFA Conference League. Ajax won easily against Serbian side Vojvodina, beating them 8-2 on aggregate in the last round.
Now, Arokodare is eligible to play after fixing the registration problem. This is a big boost for Ajax ahead of the match.
According to De Telegraaf, the Nigerian striker can now join Marc-André ter Stegen and Julian Brandt, who are also available after moving to the club this summer.
Arokodare missed the last Conference League match against Vojvodina because he could not register in time. Now that this is sorted, he is ready for his official debut against Shelbourne.
Arokodare's Focus
The Super Eagles forward said he is focused on making the most of his chance at Ajax and hopes to stay at the club after this season.
“I can’t say that yet. Ajax is a great team, but the clubs decide. The mentality is there, the people are nice, and the supporters are amazing,” Arokodare shared in an interview.
“As a footballer, you want to win and score. If I manage to do that here, naturally I want to stay.”
