Burnley has signed ex-England striker Jamie Vardy on a deal that lasts until the season ends.

The 39-year-old player joins the Clarets after leaving Italian club Cremonese in the summer.

Vardy comes back to English football after 13 years with Leicester City. He became one of the club’s best players.

He is Leicester’s top Premier League goalscorer with 145 goals.

In total, he scored 200 goals in 500 matches for the club after moving from non-league Fleetwood Town in 2012.

While at Leicester, Vardy helped the team win the Premier League title in 2016. He also became one of the best strikers in English football.

Vardy earned 26 caps for England, scoring seven goals.

Now, he joins a Burnley team that is struggling at the start of their Championship season. The Clarets were relegated from the Premier League last season and sit at the bottom of the table.

They have not won any of their first five matches under manager Nicky Hayen.

Burnley faced another blow on Saturday. They lost 2-1 at home to Bristol City, conceding two goals in the last 10 minutes.

Vardy said he is eager to help the club change their season for the better.

According to BBC Sport on Sunday, Vardy said, “This club has a proper footballing history and passionate fans who deserve a team that represents them and their town.”

“I can’t wait to get going on the pitch and help the team move in the right direction.”

Hayen believes Vardy’s experience and leadership will be important as Burnley tries to improve.

“His experience and leadership will be invaluable to our squad, and we believe he can make a significant impact on our campaign,” Hayen said.

“Jamie has a proven track record, and we are looking forward to seeing him in a Claret shirt.”
