Davido shares how makeup artist became star of 'Aye' video

Afrobeats star Davido has shared how a last-minute change led to a makeup artist taking the lead role in his music video for the popular song, Aye.

In an interview with Capital Xtra that became popular on Wednesday, Davido explained that the woman originally chosen to play the main love interest could not participate. She had to withdraw just before filming because of a contract with a beauty pageant.

“The girl that was meant to be the main girl, she was in some pageant thing. So we were about to shoot and the manager said they called from the pageant that she’s under contract and we can’t use her for the video,” Davido said.

Since filming was set to start and they could not delay, Davido and his team had to think fast.

“We couldn’t reschedule so we had to use her make-up artist,” he added.

Davido noted that this surprising change turned into one of the memorable stories behind the video’s success.

“The video got so huge that they fell out,” he said.

Aye was released as one of the standout songs from Davido’s early career. The track became a huge hit and is still one of the most loved music videos in Nigerian pop history.
