England midfielder Elliot Anderson will join Manchester City from Nottingham Forest after he returns from the World Cup. The two Premier League clubs have agreed on a deal worth around £116 million ($155 million).
This amount would be a record for City. It shows their ambition under new manager Enzo Maresca after Pep Guardiola left at the end of last season.
The 23-year-old Anderson is currently getting ready for a last-16 match against Mexico. He completed his medical in Kansas City, where the England team is based. He will officially make the move once England is out of the tournament.
"Manchester City and Nottingham Forest have reached an agreement for the transfer of Elliot Anderson," a City statement said on Thursday. "The formalities of the move will be finalised upon his return to England.
"In the meantime, everyone at Manchester City wishes Elliot and the England squad the very best of luck in their World Cup campaign. We look forward to welcoming him to Manchester in due course."
Earlier, there were claims that Anderson would go for a British record fee of £130 million. But now, the deal is expected to be less than the £125 million Liverpool paid Newcastle for Alexander Isak last year.
Anderson has played in all four of England’s World Cup matches. The national team coach, Thomas Tuchel, called him the "full package" during the team's training camp.
"He’s a top player. There’s nothing more to say, he’s the full package. I’m happy that he’s with us on that kind of level and he’s a key player for us," he said.
