Dutch football club Feyenoord has announced that their head coach Robin van Persie is leaving. The club said they will start the 2026/27 season with a new coach.

Feyenoord shared this news in a short statement on their X page on Sunday. They said, "Feyenoord will start the 2026-2027 season with a new head coach. The club would like to thank Robin van Persie for everything he gave during his time as head coach."

Van Persie returned to Feyenoord, his childhood club, as coach in February 2025. His contract was supposed to last until 2027. He leaves after helping the team finish second in the Eredivisie and qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.

Feyenoord’s new technical director, Devy Rigaux, explained the decision. He said, "Robin van Persie has given everything for the club over the past 1.5 years. He certainly deserves credit for concluding a difficult season with a final second-place finish. This secured Champions League football, which is of course very important."

Rigaux continued, "We conducted a thorough internal analysis. In this, we took into account, among other things, the development of the style of play and the declining trend in terms of points total, both in Europe and in the Eredivisie. The conclusion was that it is better to start the next season with a new head coach."

This decision comes even after Van Persie led Feyenoord to a second-place finish in the league. The team ended 19 points behind champions PSV Eindhoven and had an uneven season.

The 42-year-old former striker, who played for the Netherlands, Arsenal, and Manchester United, won 30 out of 58 matches during his 16 months in charge.
