Tyson Fury has called Anthony Joshua a coward. He also doubts their planned super-fight will happen. Fury said the bout "doesn't look like it's going to happen" in a recent social media post aimed at Joshua and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The two fighters were expected to meet in November. This would have been one of the biggest fights in British boxing history. But confusion over the venue has raised doubts. Joshua's team wants the fight in the United Kingdom, while Saudi organisers want it held in the United States.
"Doesn't look like they're going to sign the fight and it doesn't look like it's going to happen, all because Eddie Hearn and that want more money," Fury said in a series of posts on Instagram. He called Joshua and Hearn "disgusting" and "money-thirsty."
"It is what it is. Same old cliche a decade later. Keep running you little cowards," he added. Fury also referred to Hearn as a "bag carrier" and claimed Joshua had "never had the guts" to fight him.
Both fighters have contracts with Saudi-owned Sela. Organisers reportedly prefer New York's Madison Square Garden as the venue. They want the fight, which will be shown on Netflix, to appeal to American viewers.
Hearn confirmed he sent Sela a list of proposed changes. The main issue is better pay for Joshua due to the different tax rules in America. There are also practical concerns like travel, media arrangements, and accreditation.
"In layman's terms, by staging the fight in America, Anthony Joshua receives less money than he would do if the fight was in the UK, where he was contractually agreed," Hearn said. He mentioned that Sela has not replied yet.
The situation has become more complicated with the arrival of Dana White's Zuffa Boxing. This company is jointly owned by Sela and TKO Group Holdings. Hearn accused them of convincing Saudi officials that the fight would be more popular in America.
Fury said he would welcome White's involvement in the negotiations. He insists there is still strong support in British boxing for the fight to happen in the United Kingdom.
