Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has revealed that he will soon begin talks to extend his contract with the Bundesliga champions past 2027.

At a media event in Munich on Monday, the 33-year-old England captain told reporters that the discussions were delayed until after he returned from his World Cup holiday, but they will kick off soon.

"I’m not sure exactly when, but they’ll start this week or next week," Kane said about the extension talks.

"We’re calm, they’re calm with the situation. Obviously now’s the time to start talking, because with only a year left it’s important.

"But both sides are relaxed and I’m pretty sure there’ll be talks this week or next week."

Kane joined Bayern on a four-year deal in 2023. Since then, he has won two Bundesliga titles and a German Cup. He also helped the team reach the Champions League semi-finals in two out of three seasons. Kane has scored an impressive 146 goals in 147 matches across all competitions for Bayern.

Bayern has consistently expressed their desire to extend Kane’s contract. They called the former Spurs striker their "best transfer ever" at the end of last season.

Reports from Germany suggest that Kane’s new deal could last until at least 2029.

On Tuesday, Lothar Matthaeus, a German World Cup winner, said Kane should be the top contender for the Ballon d’Or, which will be awarded in October.

Matthaeus, who won the award in 1991, stated that Kane "deserves" the honor more than any other player after an incredible season where he scored 61 goals in 51 matches.

"(Kane) delivered outstanding performances and, in my opinion, didn’t have a single weak spell," Matthaeus wrote in a column for Sky Germany.

The defending Bundesliga champions Bayern will face Borussia Dortmund in the season-opening Supercup on Saturday.
