A late goal from defender Przemyslaw Wisniewski stopped Nigeria from winning as the Super Eagles drew 2-2 with Poland in an international friendly in Warsaw on Wednesday night.

Eric Chelle’s team seemed set for a good away win after Paul Onuachu scored from the penalty spot in the second half, but the hosts equalized deep into stoppage time.

The Super Eagles started strong and took the lead in the 22nd minute thanks to Terem Moffi, who scored after a nice attacking play.

Moffi received a pass from Moses Simon and finished well against the Polish goalkeeper. This was his third goal in three matches for Nigeria during this international window.

The goal went through a VAR check because some thought Simon was offside in the buildup, but the decision went Nigeria’s way.

After the goal, Nigeria gained confidence and almost scored again before halftime. Tochukwu Nnadi had a curling shot that just went wide in the 39th minute.

But Poland equalized just before the break when Kacper Potulski scored, making it 1-1 at halftime.

Chelle made several changes at the start of the second half. He brought in Calvin Bassey, Paul Onuachu, Raphael Onyedika, Zaidu Sanusi, Philip Otele, Semi Ajayi, and Rafiu Durosinmi to replace Igho Ogbu, Moffi, Frank Onyeka, Bruno Onyemaechi, Adams, Emmanuel Fernandez, and Nnadi.

These new players brought fresh energy to the Nigerian side. Onuachu almost made a quick impact in the 54th minute, but his header from a good cross went just wide.

Soon after, Onyedika shot over the bar, and Sanusi had a strike that was saved by the Polish goalkeeper.

Nigeria took the lead again in the 76th minute after VAR awarded them a penalty for handball against a Polish defender.

Onuachu took the penalty and scored, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to make it 2-1.

Poland pushed hard for another equalizer and almost got it in the 80th minute. Goalkeeper Maduka Okoye made a fantastic double save to keep Nigeria ahead.

It looked like Nigeria would hold on for the win, but Wisniewski scored from close range in the final moments to make it 2-2 and secure a draw for Poland.

Nigeria will continue their European tour with another friendly match against Portugal next Wednesday.
