The Nigeria Basketball Federation has announced the men’s 3x3 basketball team that will represent the country at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. This team includes a mix of local talent and players from the Nigerian diaspora.
The squad features Esosa Kelvin Okundaye, who wears jersey number nine and comes from Benin. Marcel Esonwune, wearing number 12, is based in New York, United States. Robert Chima Ukawuba, who wears number four, is from Lagos.
Okundaye is expected to bring speed and an exciting style of play. Officials believe his skills will be important in the fast-paced three-a-side game. Esonwune, representing Nigerian players abroad, adds international experience and leadership from his time in the United States.
Ukawuba is seen as a key defender for the team. His strength and physical play will help Nigeria compete for a medal in this intense sport, where every play can change the outcome.
The three players arrived in Glasgow after training at a high-performance center in Europe. The federation stated that the team is in great shape as they prepare for the Games.
The National Sports Commission has also given welfare packages to the team. This is part of the plan to keep the players focused and free from distractions before the competition.
