Nigeria's Medal Winners at the 2026 Commonwealth Games

Team Nigeria is now among the top five countries on the medals table at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. This comes after the weightlifters added three more gold medals on Monday, bringing Nigeria's total to 10 medals.

The National Sports Commission shared a statement on its X account on Tuesday. It revealed that Team Nigeria has six gold and four silver medals. This puts Nigeria ahead of all other African countries at the Games.

The commission highlighted the achievements of weightlifters Edidiong Umoafia, Onome Didih, and Rafiatu Lawal. These athletes helped boost Nigeria's medal count with their impressive performances.

"Team Nigeria had another fantastic day at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. We added three gold medals through a strong performance in weightlifting. Now, Nigeria has 10 medals: six gold and four silver. This moves Nigeria to fourth place on the overall medal table," the commission reported.

Umoafia secured the gold in the men's 71kg category with a total lift of 319kg. Didih took home the women’s 53kg title with a Commonwealth Games record of 203kg. Meanwhile, Lawal defended her Commonwealth title in the women’s 58kg event.

The commission also congratulated Team Nigeria’s athletes, coaches, and officials for their hard work and success.

When PUNCH Online checked the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games website, it found that Nigeria had fallen to fifth place. Scotland moved ahead with a total of six gold, four silver, and three bronze medals.

With six gold and four silver medals, Team Nigeria is among the best-performing nations at the Games. More events in athletics, boxing, wrestling, and weightlifting are still to come.
