Nigeria Wins Two Bronze Medals in Glasgow 2026

Nigeria's athletics team faced tough weather on a rainy evening at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Tuesday. Kanyinsola Ajayi and Temitope Adeshina both earned bronze medals in their events.

Ajayi made history as the first Nigerian male sprinter in 20 years to win a medal in the Commonwealth Games 100m race. He finished third with a time of 9.90 seconds in a strong final.

The last Nigerian man to win a medal in the Commonwealth Games 100m was Olusoji Fasuba. He won silver at the 2006 Games in Melbourne.

Cameroon's Emmanuel Eseme took gold with a Games record of 9.83 seconds. Australia's Lachlan Kennedy won silver with a personal best of 9.85 seconds. Ajayi managed to hold off South Africa's Gift Leotlela, who came fourth in 9.91 seconds.

For Ajayi, the bronze was a bit disappointing. The 20-year-old had earlier won his semi-final in 9.94 seconds despite the rain. He qualified easily for the final.

Good News in Women's High Jump

There was also good news for Team Nigeria in the women’s high jump. Temitope Adeshina cleared 1.90m to win another bronze medal.

Adeshina finished behind Australia’s Eleanor Patterson and Nicola Olyslagers, who both cleared 1.93m. Adeshina made great progress from her 10th-place finish at her Commonwealth Games debut four years ago.

This double podium finish adds to Nigeria's medal tally after a strong start in the first four days, which was mostly led by para powerlifting and weightlifting.
