Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is still on Manchester United's list of transfer targets. The former Premier League champions are looking for a new centre-forward this summer, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Galatasaray is not keen on letting Osimhen go and has set a €150m price tag on him. Despite this, Osimhen is still in United's plans after other options fell through.
As per CaughtOffside, Manchester United aims to make three more signings before the transfer window ends, with a striker at the top of their list.
The Red Devils have already added Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, Karl Darlow, and Tynan Thompson to their squad. Santos and Tielemans are expected to strengthen the midfield. Darlow will back up first-choice goalkeeper Senne Lammens, and 18-year-old winger Thompson is seen as a future attacking option.
According to The Athletic, United is also looking at other options for the front line. Benjamin Sesko is still recovering from a shin injury that kept him out of the club’s pre-season trip to Finland.
Joshua Zirkzee is currently filling in for Sesko, but he is expected to return to Italy after struggling to make an impact at Old Trafford.
CaughtOffside reported on May 30 that Osimhen is United’s “dream” signing. They want to give manager Michael Carrick an elite No. 9. Yet Osimhen's €150m (£128m) price tag is a big hurdle.
United considered Robert Lewandowski, Jean-Philippe Mateta, Eli Junior Kroupi, and Dusan Vlahovic. But Lewandowski is out of the picture after joining MLS team Chicago Fire.
On June 26, journalist Ben Jacobs said that INEOS is also looking at experienced forwards Danny Welbeck and Ivan Toney to help support Sesko.
After missing out on midfield targets Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes, United shifted focus to Ederson from Atalanta. However, the Brazilian reportedly failed a medical, leading the club to go after Santos and Tielemans instead.
United paid Chelsea £50m for Santos and activated Tielemans’ £35m release clause at Aston Villa. They completed both deals for the same amount Tottenham Hotspur spent on Fernandes (£85m).
The Athletic also mentioned that United is looking to sign a third central midfielder to complete their midfield makeover. The club wants a strong midfielder who can cover a lot of ground.
Bournemouth’s Alex Scott is a player United likes, but the Cherries will not sell him this summer, even though the England youth international turned down a new contract.
Roma midfielder Manu Koné has also become a key target, and United has started formal talks about a possible deal.
Along with a new midfielder, United hopes to strengthen at striker and left-back before the transfer window closes.
