Defending champions Rangers International got their first win of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season on Friday. They beat Nasarawa United 2-1 in a matchday three game that was resumed after rain.
The match took place at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri. It was stopped in the 63rd minute on Thursday, September 17, due to heavy rain. Both teams came back on Friday morning to finish the remaining minutes.
Nasarawa United scored first in the 39th minute thanks to Sunday Dapman. Chidozie Iwundu quickly equalized for Rangers just two minutes later. Daniel Itodo then netted the winning goal in the 84th minute for coach Fidelis Ilechukwu's side.
This match was held in Owerri because the Awka Township Stadium was not available. Rangers usually play at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.
With this win, Rangers moved up to 8th place on the table, with four points from two matches. They also have one game in hand against most of their rivals.
Nasarawa United dropped to 14th place with three points from three games. They won their first match at home against Bendel Insurance but lost away to Barau FC.
Doma United is at the top of the table with nine points from three matches. Barau FC follows in second place with seven points.
Both teams will be back in action on Sunday, September 20. Rangers will travel to play Kun Khalifat FC, while Nasarawa United will host Rivers United.
