Nigerian DJ and billionaire’s daughter, Florence Otedola, known as DJ Cuppy, has shared why she stopped wearing pink, a colour that defined her for years.
Cuppy mentioned that she didn't want to be limited by a single colour. She said her personal growth has changed her fashion sense.
In a video from her GQ Poland interview posted on X on Friday, she answered questions about her famous pink look. She explained that while the colour still reflects her personality, she can show those traits using other colours.
“I was known for the colour pink and it was my identity for so many years, and a lot of people are asking what happened to the pink.
“I want people to understand that actually growth is something that will always come, and I don’t think I should be boxed into a colour.
“Pink for me meant power, vibrancy, expression, unapologeticness, positionality, and that’s still me, but I’m able to express it through other colours as well,” she said.
Cuppy related her changing style to being a woman in a male-dominated industry.
She remembered using pink when she began her journey in entertainment 17 years ago. She said it helped her show her femininity while making her mark.
“When I think about my style, I think about a woman in a male-dominated industry.
“Maybe also when I first started 17 years ago, a young girl that was using pink to represent her femininity and stay in the room,” she said.
Cuppy added that after years in the industry, she no longer needs to stick to one colour to show her femininity.
“Now that I’ve been through a lot of doors and kicked down some windows, I feel like I can represent my femininity through any colour.
“So my style I would say is vibrant, grounded and ethnical,” she added.
