Genk striker Rafiu Durosinmi wants to win the top-scorer award in the Belgian Pro League. He has started the season well, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Durosinmi scored Genk's first goal in their 2-1 loss at Zulte Waregem on Sunday. He was named Man of the Match, even though his team could not hold on to their lead.
Despite the loss, Durosinmi is looking beyond this great start. He has made winning the golden boot one of his main goals for the season.
“I want to score, I want to finish high in the standings, and I also want to go for the top scorer title. I have always dreamed of that,” Durosinmi told DAZN.
The 25-year-old striker wants to follow in the footsteps of Nigerian players like Paul Onuachu and Tolu Arokodare. Both of them have been top scorers in the Belgian league.
Arokodare is a good example for Durosinmi. He scored 14 league goals for Genk in the 2024/25 season, finishing as the top scorer in the Pro League.
Durosinmi has started his goal tally and needs 13 more goals to match Arokodare's record. He is focused on becoming Genk’s main attacking player.
His performance against Zulte Waregem was impressive, but Genk’s poor start to the season overshadowed it.
“Of course I would have preferred to win, because then this would have been a great moment to celebrate,” he said.
Durosinmi’s goal gave Genk an early lead, but Zulte Waregem came back to take all three points. This left Genk without a point on the first weekend.
He will have another chance to score when Genk faces Westerlo at the Cegeka Arena on Saturday.
With a long season ahead, Durosinmi hopes to turn his strong start into a steady scoring run as he chases the top-scorer title he has always dreamed of.
