Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, who holds the African record, and sprint star Udodi Onwuzurike helped Nigeria as it prepares for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. They both finished third at the Gyulai István Memorial, Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix in Budapest, Hungary.

Enekwechi took third place in the men’s shot put with a throw of 21.48 metres. Italy’s Leonardo Fabbri won the event with a throw of 22.04 metres. Jamaica’s Rajindra Campbell came second with a throw of 21.52 metres.

Onwuzurike also earned a podium spot, finishing third in the men’s 200m with a time of 20.18 seconds, matching his season’s best. Zimbabwe’s Makanakaishe Charamba won the race in 20.09 seconds. Morocco’s Yassine Hssine set a national record with a winning time of 19.92 seconds.

These results give Team Nigeria a boost as they finalize their preparations for the Glasgow Games.
