Nafisat Hammed shares why she ended her marriage to Akin Olaiya

Nafisat Hammed, the former wife of actor Akin Olaiya, has finally spoken out about their marriage, which lasted less than a year.

Olaiya married Nafisat in June 2025 in a ceremony in Oyo State. Videos from the wedding later made their way online.

A letter that many shared on social media, which looked like it was signed by the actor, confirmed their marriage was over.

But Olaiya did not post the letter on his social media pages. This raised questions about whether the marriage had truly ended. Nafisat cleared things up in a viral video obtained by PREMIUM TIMES on Wednesday. She confirmed she had left the marriage for good.

She set the record straight and made some serious claims against her ex.

"Like yesterday, I saw what was trending on social media. A lot of people were voicing their own sides of the story without knowing the facts. But I am here to tell my side," Nafisat said.

"Three months ago, I left my marriage because I was in pain and mistreated. I felt I did not matter.

"Nobody prays to stay in a marital home that involves violence. Regarding the divorce letter circulating on social media, everything is quite chaotic. In reality, my husband and I have not been together for a long time, since last year."

Clarifying the Situation

She added that she kept her private life to herself for as long as she was with the actor.

"That is something I would never do on social media. But I want people to understand that it does not make sense to say that I just packed up and left without cause, simply for my own enjoyment. That is not possible. You should all consider whether that makes sense. All I can say is that I handled it," she explained.

Feelings of Betrayal

Nafisat mentioned that she had left everything that happened between her and her ex in the hands of God. She called Him the only one in charge of all matters.

She also claimed that Olaiya betrayed her by marrying one of her close friends.

"Imagine, after all that mistreatment, the pain, and everything, the husband ends up marrying your own best friend. What does that mean? It is because I am not the type of person who will just come and tell my side of the story so openly. I am not used to it... in our culture, we are not trained that way. We cannot just come and expose someone.

"Regarding the claims on social media that he would drag me out because I have an infection, I do not know where that is coming from, or if he is the one spreading such rumours.

"All I can say is that my husband and I are no more [together]. The two people I trusted ended up betraying me; they really disappointed me."

Nafisat shared she had strong reasons to leave the marriage, saying the actor had other motives for being with her friend.

"It is not a big deal. That is what he decided to do, and that is what he has in mind. I do not want to put myself in his shoes, as we are no longer together. I am praying for a good future for myself, and I choose my peace and happiness over everything. Thank God I am living my own life."
