Team Nigeria finished strong with one silver and two bronze medals at the ongoing Ulaanbaatar 2026 United World Wrestling (UWW) 3rd Ranking Series on Saturday in Mongolia.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Hannah Ojo took home silver while Esther Kolawole secured bronze in their weight classes.
NAN also reports that Ojo and Kolawole joined Christianah Ogunsanya in winning medals at this event.
This championship helps athletes gain important seeding points for future global competitions.
Nigeria’s Ojo showed her skill with a 10-0 victory against Mongolian Tuvshinjargal Tarav. This win set her up for a semi-final match against Priya from India, which she won 5-1.
But the reigning African champion faced a tough opponent in the final. She lost to Kajal of India with a score of 0-8, taking home the silver medal.
Earlier, Kolawole earned a bronze medal by defeating Huan Yang from China 10-0. She made an impressive statement by beating Russian world number one Amina Tandelova 6-0.
Kolawole narrowly lost to world silver medallist Kim Ok-ju from North Korea, with a score of 4-5.
In total, Team Nigeria wrapped up the Ranking Series Tournament with one silver and two bronze medals, bringing their total to three medals from four athletes.
NAN reports that four female wrestlers represented Nigeria in different weight categories: Mercy Genesis (50kg), Tolulope Ogunsanya (53kg), Esther Kolawole (62kg), and Hannah Ojo (76kg).
The third United World Wrestling (UWW) Ranking Series for female wrestling in Mongolia, known as the ‘Ulaanbaatar Open’, is an annual event on the international calendar.
This tournament is the third of four UWW Ranking Series events, allowing wrestlers to earn vital seeding points.
The championship started on June 4 and ended on Saturday in Mongolia.
