Nigeria’s Sade Olatoye could not win a medal in the women’s hammer throw at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. She finished eighth, falling short of the podium despite a strong effort, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

The African Championships silver medallist had a best throw of 63.27m. She was unable to compete with the top athletes in a final that was led by Canada’s Camryn Rogers.

Rogers defended her Commonwealth title impressively, breaking the Games record with a throw of 74.91m to win gold. New Zealand’s Lauren Bruce took the silver medal with a throw of 69.82m. Australia’s Lara Roberts rounded out the podium by winning bronze with a mark of 68.05m.

Olatoye came into the competition with hopes of winning a medal. She had a season’s best throw of 70.46m but could not achieve a distance that would put her in medal contention.

The Nigerian athlete qualified for the final after successfully getting through the qualifying round. She was seen as one of Nigeria’s top hopes in the field events after her silver medal at the 2026 African Championships in Accra.
