Rodri believes Man City will win fight against 114 charges

Former Manchester City player Rodri believes the club will win a legal fight with the Premier League. This comes after reports on Friday that City has been found guilty on 114 charges.

The ruling is not out yet and there are no penalties decided.

Still, this news has shocked English football. There is talk about whether City could be relegated or face a heavy points deduction, or even lose past titles.

The club is accused of not providing correct information about payments to players and coaches. They are also accused of breaking financial rules.

In 2020, UEFA also found City guilty of breaking financial fair play rules. They received a two-year ban from European competitions but won an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

"We went through an identical process in 2020," Rodri said during a press conference before Spain’s Nations League match against England on Saturday.

“The club always reassured us that we would be cleared of wrongdoing, that we would face no penalties because nothing improper had been done. We trusted the club, and ultimately, the club was acquitted."

Rodri scored the winning goal when City claimed their first Champions League title in 2023. He has won 12 major trophies with the club.

“I have faith that the club, which I know very well, will be cleared, given the reassurance they gave us back then that they had done everything by the book,” he said.

Rodri struggled with injuries in his last two seasons at City but returned strong during the World Cup. He helped Spain win the trophy.

Spain’s victory at Euro 2024 earned Rodri the Ballon d’Or that year. He is again a contender for the best player award this time.

Unlike other candidates like Kylian Mbappe and his teammate Lamine Yamal, Rodri does not think he needs to promote himself for the award.

“Do you think I don’t want to win it? I know it’s an award that doesn’t depend on what you say publicly. It depends on what you’ve shown on the pitch,” the 30-year-old said.

“Individual titles are a reward for collective effort. Nothing players like me have achieved makes sense without teammates.”

Despite winning two major tournaments in two years, Rodri said Spain is still hungry for more. They begin their Nations League campaign in front of 90,000 fans at Wembley.

“We are motivated to win another title,” he added.
