Nigerian rapper and entertainer Folarin Falana, known as Falz, has dropped the official music video for his single Omoge, weeks after the song hit streaming platforms.

Released on 20 March, Omoge takes its title and rhythm from a Sir Shina Peters sample. Sir Shina Peters is a juju legend whose 1989 album Ace (Afro-Juju Series 1) helped shape Nigerian music and sparked what fans called “Shinamania.” By building on this classic sound, Falz and producer Aykbeats bring back a cherished part of Yoruba music for a younger crowd.

The video

The video fully embraces Yoruba culture. From the costumes to the setting, everything reflects this goal. Falz appears in traditional clothing and picks funny, lively moments instead of the usual romantic scenes found in love songs.

Simple lyrics

Omoge stands out from some of his earlier works, and that seems to be by design.

The song focuses on a woman the narrator admires. He wants to comfort her and show his love without making it complicated. Lines like “Rest your mind, drink some wine” and “My baby no like wahala” give the song a soothing, reassuring vibe.

The message becomes clear when Falz says he has found the woman he wants to marry and is, as he puts it, “off the market officially.” There is no confusion here.

A different side of Falz

Many fans know Falz for his songs that talk about social issues and life in Nigeria. Tracks like This Is Nigeria and Talk helped him gain fame as an artist who addresses serious topics. Omoge is different.

Instead of focusing on politics or social issues, Falz makes a light, joyful song that's easy to dance to.

In a 2024 chat with Premium Times, he shared his wish to create music that signals a fresh start. Omoge clearly shows this new direction and reveals another side of him, reminding listeners he can also make fun music.

Verdict

Omoge knows what it aims to be: a cheerful, danceable song made for celebration. The beat, playful lyrics, and colorful video come together for a fun experience.

For those wanting a song to dance to without overthinking, Omoge hits the mark perfectly.

Verdict- 8/10
