Nigeria may not play in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but football fans can still catch all the action. StarTimes Nigeria shared its plans for coverage on Tuesday.

At a press event in Lagos, the pay-TV company said it will air all 104 matches of the World Cup. The tournament will take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.

Nigeria did not qualify for the tournament after a disappointing qualifying round. This means the Super Eagles will miss football's biggest event for the second time, following their absence from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

With no Nigerian team to support, fans will likely turn their attention to famous football stars and strong teams as they look for new favorites during the month-long event.

StarTimes announced it has set up special channels for the tournament. They will show all matches live, including pre-match shows, halftime talks, and post-match discussions.

“We are one of the official broadcasters of the FIFA World Cup 2026 and all 104 matches will be live on StarTimes,” said Oke Umurhohwo, the company’s Marketing Director.

The broadcaster also revealed a N50 million promotional package for subscribers, which includes a N10 million grand prize to be won in a live draw on the final day.

According to Mr Umurhohwo, both new and existing subscribers can join in the promotion. Winners will receive solar home systems, TVs, and other prizes.

StarTimes explained that matches will be available on their satellite and terrestrial TV services, and also through the StarTimes ON mobile app. This means subscribers can watch games on their phones.

They also plan to hold viewing events in selected cities during the knockout rounds, semi-finals, and final. This is part of their effort to engage fans during the tournament.

In addition, the company said it will lower prices for decoders and accessories before the World Cup. They want to make it easier for people to access tournament coverage.

The 2026 World Cup will be the biggest in FIFA history, featuring 48 teams and 104 matches across three countries.

While Nigerians will watch the tournament from a distance again, interest is expected to be high. The nation's love for football remains strong, especially with several African teams competing.
