Trabzonspor's interim head coach Huseyin Cimsir has eased fears about Paul Onuachu’s injury. He said the Super Eagles striker did not have a serious problem during their 5-0 win over Genclerbirligi on Sunday, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Onuachu had to leave the game in the 44th minute after getting hurt in his chin from a tough challenge. New signing Franculino Dju replaced him on the field.
Cimsir, who took over from Fatih Terim, downplayed worries about Onuachu’s injury. He suggested that the striker might be back in action soon.
“I don’t think it’s a very important thing. There is no troubled situation,” Cimsir said in quotes shared by HaberTS.
The injury happened after Onuachu had just ended a five-match goal drought in all competitions. He scored twice before being substituted as Trabzonspor celebrated a big win.
The 32-year-old scored the first goal within the first five minutes. Then, Mohamed Salah added a second goal from the penalty spot.
Onuachu netted his second goal in the 22nd minute. Goals from Ernest Muci and Franculino rounded off the scoreline.
The Turkish Cup winners are now hoping their top striker gets fit in time for their next league match against Konyaspor next weekend. They are eager to keep pushing for the title after a slow start to the season.
Onuachu will also want to be ready for Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau later this month.
He will be particularly keen to keep his scoring form after his two goals against Genclerbirligi ended his dry spell of five matches this season.
